Vikramshila House

Vikramshila House takes its name from the ancient university of Vikramashila, founded by King Dharmapala during the Pala dynasty in eastern India. Vikramashila was one of the five great mahaviharas of its time, alongside Nalanda, Somapura, Odantapura, and Jagaddala. These institutions formed a connected network where scholars moved freely and collaborated. The house draws on this legacy of intellectual curiosity and collaboration.

House Activities

Through the year, Vikramshila House members take part in every inter-house event on the school calendar. On Sports Day, our athletes compete in the sprints, the relays, and the long jump, while the cricket squad carries the same fighting spirit into the Inter-House Cricket Spirit Cup. The science exhibition is where the house feels most at home — teams build working models and present them to judges, drawing on the same curiosity about how things work that Vikramashila itself was known for. In the debate competition, members research their motions, test each other's arguments in practice rounds, and learn to think on their feet. Cultural performances — group songs, dance, and short skits at the annual festival — round out the year and bring the house together across classes. Regular house meetings are held to plan these events, divide responsibilities, and keep the collaborative spirit that defines us.

Message from the House Captain

Last year, our science exhibition team rebuilt their model three times before the judging round because the circuit kept failing. Nobody told them to start over; they just did, because the version they had was not good enough yet. That, more than any banner or slogan, is what Vikramshila House means to me. We argue hard in debates, we push ourselves on the track, and we turn up for each other when a model needs rebuilding at the last minute. Strive for Excellence is not something we say at the start of an event — it is the standard we hold ourselves to when nobody is watching.
